Summary

This amazing pop ups book by Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart, is a very detailed book about dinosaurs. It gives some details such as what the period of the dinosaurs is called, how long ago it was and how it is divided into three periods. It also gives a definition of what the study of these creatures or ancient animals is called (Paleontology). The book also gives information on certain dinosaurs like for example how the Stegosaurus had a brain the size of a walnut and how it had an extra nerve center in its hip to help coordinate lower body movement. Throughout the whole book fascinating facts about dinosaurs can be found, facts that no one would know unless they read this paper engineered book. It is very detailed, and the pop ups are amazing, they make the book come to life.

Evaluation

The book in and of itself is very nice and has some really cool facts, but I do not think that I would use the book in my classroom. That being said, I would not use it, but I would not mind having it in the classroom library. The reason I would not use the book, is because I do not think that children want to sit there and listen to dinosaur facts that they will probably forget in a couple of minutes. The information is cool and surprising, but I don’t see myself using it because it could get boring unless someone really likes dinosaurs. If anything the students would pay more attention to the pop ups than what is being said. Someways that the book can be used in the classroom, is to show the students the pop ups, and get them show them that dinosaurs did indeed once rule this world. The book can also be used like I said in a classroom library for those who would like to take a look at the pop ups and maybe some of the facts. It can also be used to teach the students that they need to be careful when they read books, not to tear the book and not to mess up the pop ups. The pop ups in the book are very beautiful, and I was amazed at how good they looked. The color as well, even the little drawings that were on the book are very nice and detailed. Everything in the book is very well thought out, and it can be seen that a lot of time went into the making of the pop ups because like I said before they are very thorough and detailed.
