Summary
The book is about three goats named Gruff who wanted to go up the hillside and make themselves fat. They had to cross a bridge to go to the hillside but under the bridge was a big ugly troll. The troll saw that the smallest goat was crossing the bridge and wanted to eat him, but the small goat saved himself by saying that he was too small and the next goat is much bigger. Then the next goat was crossing the bridge when the troll also said that he was going to gobble him up, but the second goat said the same as the small goat, and so the troll let him go. When the third goat was passing the bridge the troll told him he was going to eat him up as well, but the third goat said that he had two big spears and two big stones. The third goat then poked the eyes out of the troll and crushed him into pieces. At the end they all got to go up the hillside and got really fat that they could not walk.
Evaluation
I do not think that I would use this book in class, especially because of the ending. The book itself is good and the illustrations are good as well, I just do not think I would use it. The book can be used to teach the concept of small medium and large. Other than that I think the book can be used for a read aloud or enjoyment.
