The book by Berta and Elmer Hader, is a book about a little red hen who lives with a cat and frog that are lazy. She makes a cake all by herself, and then asks them who is going to eat it, to which they both answer me. She then proceeds to say she will eat it and runs until she finds a nice spot to sit and enjoy her cake. There is a wolf family, and the dad wolf goes to look for something to eat, when he stumbles upon the little red hen. The little red hen gets stuffed into a bag by the wolf, but manages to escape, and while she was gone the frog and cat missed her so much that they swore they would never be lazy again. At the end they all are helping around the house and it is not just the little red hen doing everything.
Evaluation
I would most definitely use the book in class, because it is a good children's book that can be read aloud. The book can be used to teach the children that they should not be lazy, and that they should not take things for granted. It is a book that can be read for enjoyment. I would read the book then do a discussion. I would also ask the students if there are any books that they can connect this book to. The images in the book were really nice and big enough for children to see clearly.
