The book titled "Give Yourself to the Rain" by Margaret Wise Brown, is a collection of poems that have to do with different things. For example, the very first poem I Like Apples is about liking apples, and it names various types of apples. Another one titled Green Grass & Dandelions is about how the grass has never been so green and the Dandelions have never been so yellow. The genre of this book is poetry. There is not a specific theme in the book, but they are rather just different short poems. They range from the colors of summer to songs and a poem titled Give Yourself to the Rain. The illustrations in the book were done by Teri L. Weidner, and they are just beautiful. They are very colorful, and each one depicts what the poem is about. The illustrations look as if they were done in color pencil, and they are very detailed. This book would be appropriate for first graders and second graders. I do not think I would use the book in the classroom because although they are great poems, I myself did not think that these poems were that interesting and I do not know if I could use this in a classroom. Some ideas on how some of the poems can be used, is that the one titled Give Yourself to the Rain, could be used to introduce the concept of rain and the water cycle. There is a poem titled Colors and that one can be used to teach colors since the poem uses similes to compare the colors to things the children can make connections to, and it use rhymes as well.
