Traditional literature blog

The Traditional literature book Grandfather's Dream by Holly Keller, is about the grandfather of this boy named Nam. Nam's grandfather believes that the Sarus crane will one day come back because back in his time they used to live right there where they live now. But during the Vietnam War the area was destroyed, therefore the birds no longer lived there. No one in the community believed that the birds were going to come back and wanted to use the land as rice fields. The community decided that if after the rainy season the birds did not come back, they would plant rice. One day in the fields, Nam noticed that his dogs were carrying baby birds he had never seen before. When he told his dad about the birds, that is when he knew that his grandfather's dream was not a silly dream, but a good one. I think that I would use this book in the classroom, because it is a good way to teach children that it is okay to have dreams. The appropriate grade level for the book I would say is Kindergarten as well as first. One unit of study that the book can be used for, is when it comes to studying animals, and if they are endangered or not. One way I would use this book in the classroom would be, to show students that it does not matter how old you are, you can still have dreams, and that dreams are not only for small children. Another way, would be to show students that dreams can be passed down from generation to generation.
